In contrast to the Perpignan stay, our five days in Paris were packed from top to bottom with activity. We arrived on Monday evening at about 6 o’clock, checked in to our hotel in Montmartre, then decided to head out for dinner. We ate in a restaurant near the Gare du Nord, before catching the metro to Invalides and watching the sun and moon change places over Pont Alexandre III.
For the rest of the week, we walked and metro-ed all over the city, taking photographs and browsing in shops. Some of the most charming destinations were the seventeenth-century, glass-ceilinged passages, lined with small businesses selling everything from cakes to books to dolls houses. From one of these passages, Galerie Vivienne, we progressed to the Palais Royal and rested on a bench along one of its tree-lined avenues, watching a man share his lunch with some sparrows.
On another occasion, we visited the brilliant CinéAqua, a curious combination of aquarium and animation studio that works surprisingly well. I stared at the mini sharks, stroked some koi carp, and became very excited by an exhibition of original character sketches by Hayao Miyazaki for his most recent film, ‘Ponyo’.
We also explored the cobbled streets and winding stairs of Montmartre, cooed at a cat (alright, that was just me), marvelled at the metro’s talented buskers, riffled through geekery galore in some comic book/sci-fi/fantasy/anime/video game shops in the Quartier Latin, and took our pick of its numerous restaurants opposite the Notre Dame.
And, yes, I took hundreds of pictures of this beautiful cliché:
P.S – don’t worry, Flix, it’s not all Eiffel Towers; there’s also this not-particularly-French photo for you…

Great photos…I always enjoy seeing travel blogs. There is so much to see in this world.

Tres bien! Beautiful photos of the most beautiful city, IMO. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful. I have the BIGGEST travel bug. Is this your life? Traveling around to beautiful countries or was this a special vacation? Nice photography as well… and if this is your life, please tell me all your secrets! How do you do it?! :-)
Lovely pictures of France… very motivating for me as my partner and I are intending on visiting France and Italy very soon. Our plan is to stay in France (and then in Italy) for a total of 12 months (six months in each), so that we can become bilingual (well, tri-lingual, but the intention was that she would learn French and I would learn Italian).
These pictures are just grist for the mill in terms of my (and our) desire to go and expand our minds, (literally). :-)
With Love and Gratitude,
The Intentional Sage
Thank you everyone! I’m not actually a regular traveller, this was just a summer holiday for myself and my boyfriend, partly so that he could visit some family in France and partly so that we could have a nice continental break together. We’re students, so (unfortunately) we can’t afford to do this often, but we really enjoyed it :)
To the Intentional Sage: I hope that your partner and yourself have a lovely time! A year in France and Italy sounds amazing; I’ve never been to Italy before, but it’s somewhere that I would really like to visit.
Great photos! Paris is the best!
I love the cat photo, and the clouds in the first photo are amazing! Cakes look pretty good too… :)
Looks like a great trip!
beautiful. I was conceived in France but never got to see it – all I have is photos and these really bring back the memories of sitting around watching the slide shows – thanks
AWESOME! I’m taking a trip to NYC in September and I’m freaked out — but this post has me thinking maybe I should just relax and hide behind my camera!
crystalspins.com
What fabulous images! I love this post, the pictures and the commentary put me in France. Well done! Cheers, sweetman
Thanks for all the kind comments! CrystalSpins, cameras are the best for hiding behind ;) but I’m sure that you’ll have a great time in New York and won’t need to hide at all, don’t worry.
Truly beautoful photographies. They made me dream while I longed for the city of Paris, oh it must be magnificant during the summer :)

I am going to Paris in September, this country is so unique. I can’t wait to see what it has to offer.
I like the looks of that cat…very knowledgeable looking! I remember my time in Paris fondly. That was before they made that Chunnel though, so that’s going back quite a ways.

Gorgeous photos. Paris is perhaps my favorite city in the world. Not only to visit, but to live. (Love the cat in the window. I’ve known my share of chats who perch and purr exactly like that.)
Just found your blog! Great pictures! What kind of camera do you use?
I have a Canon EOS 450D, which I love dearly :) but I don’t just use digital – I also have an Olympus OM2n, and will be posting some of my favourite film shots from France very soon.
Thank you for replying and commenting on my blog! (:
I would really love to see the film shots.
That’s a rather antique camera! My mother gave me her old Nikon EM, which she purchased back in the late 70s. I’ve taken some shots with it, but it doesn’t always work. Although I absolutely love the feel of it. Fully manual. No auto-anything!
Your photographs are sensational! A couple of your images of the Eiffel Tower actually gave me goosepimples!
Thanks so much for sharing your photos and little bit of what you did in Paris. I visited there last fall for only two days, and was very taken with the city. A beautiful place. Sounds like you had a good time — and you took some great photos. Thanks!
Great shots! I like em a lot.
Wonderful trip report and excellent photos! I especially like the Metro photos. I long to visit Paris and love photography, so your report very much resonated with me.
tres bien!
This looks like my kind of trip. Your pictures capture all my favorite little details about a place- lamp posts, felines, and best of all, sweets! I haven’t been to Paris in years, but your post makes me miss it.
The eiffel tower black n white photos are so nice!
These are amazing photos! Tres belle!
Very beautiful picture and I like this very image.
Lovely photos…
Great photos!

Ah tres bien, tres bien. This brings back many fond memories of my time spent here. I could easily call this place home.
Great photos… I just returned from Paris 5 days ago- and the days were long and now I’m broke and my feet are so tired I don’t think i can walk for a week.. but it was so worth it… amazing sights!
Oh yes, that sounds familiar! You’ve just summed up exactly how I felt upon returning as well :D
I took cooed as several cats in Paris. They usually perk up when you say “aaawww . . .jolie chat!” However, the black cat I found in Pere Lachaise came to “Here kitty, kitty.” Even the cats in Paris are bilingual, but most refuse to speak English until you cough up a little French!
I love the photos of Paris – funnily I spotted your Eiffel Town with photo in a feed of Paris Pictures. It looked as if I wasn’t going away this year so opted to look at pictures instead but now were actually getting away in two weeks time for a few days so when I spotted the blog post on the WordPress page I thought I’m reading that thank you!!
OMG I’m really excited now after looking at all of your beautiful pictures!
D.
The cloud is beautiful.:)
Love the photo’s
The first photo shows a rather rare occurrence of wavy clouds. It’s captured with a drop of luck coupled with unparalleled photography skills. Bravo!
Amazing pictures, Miki! You captured the instant, the fragrance, voices and melody of this place. Congratulations!
Oh wow, I woke up this morning to a lot of comments. I’m sorry that I can’t respond to you all individually, but I really do appreciate you taking the time to leave some nice words :) thank you everyone!
Lovely pictures and post…
Yes, it does provide a lot of signs about a country
Congratulations
beautiful, amazing, i like it, what an art…keep your good work
Beautiful Photos, I enjoy a lot
WOW. Those are really good photos. I wish I could travel too so I could see wonderful places.
Really loving your photos!
great photos. they are making me miss paris and i just left today. the walking and metro thing gets really exhausting especially in the summer, the RER is the hottest.
Wonderful photos :)
Very nice photos, I’d love to go to Paris with my camera! Nice combination of beauty and everyday life.
Beautiful photos. I love the clouds in the first picture and the black and white photos.
Marvelous! I especially like the photos of the pastries, the book spines, and the picture-within-picture of the Eiffel Tower.
Paris..I love this city…
I love Paris as well and also have so, so many pictures of the Eiffel Tower. Yours are wonderful!
Wonderful and charming photos, you succeeded in capturing some amazing typical French scenes, amazing!
:-)
I just recently finished up a study abroad program in France and it’s always so fun to read about and to see other people’s impressions of France and of Paris. Your pictures were beautiful and just like you, I found myself obsessed with the Eiffel Tower. I think I took over a hundred photos of that iconic radio tower. If you’re interested, my blog is all about me chronicling my study abroad experience in France.
Your shots of the remarkable lamps, more than anything, took me right back to Paris. I stayed right where you stayed in a private 5th floor walk-up, oak spiral staircase all the way, views every direction, walk to Notre Dame and the Bastille – thanks for the memories.
It is truly a magical city, but the traffic is way too much.
Looking at your pictures brought back so many lovely memories of Paris.
Liked the photographs on this post as well as many previous posts. The first one on this post is a classic one. Thanks for sharing.
Good job with the Paris pics! Like you, I couldn’t get enough of taking pics of the Eiffel tower during my trip last year. Oh how I miss it now..
Beautiful photos
I enjoyed this so much, thank you for sharing!
Great pictures! Paris is fantastic for photog lovers. I’ve had great fun capturing the cliche as well as the unexpected. I was wondering if that shot at Abbesses is where I got this one.

aww I love love love Paris!! Wish to go there someday! Great photos keep it up ;)
Wow, your pictures look amazing? What camera are you using?
Thank you :) I have a Canon 450D, and three lenses for it (although if I had the money then it would be more!).
I visited Paris, several years before. I ride on an elevator in Eiffel tower, which is really huge and nice architecture.
Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to comment! It’s very encouraging, and I’m just glad that my photos are being enjoyed by so many people.
Beautiful photos!
The Eiffel Tower with bridge is my favorite. Great photos!
Great shots of Paris! Thanks for the post!
All about the Eiffel Tower !!! A few of those are really primo.
Wow, you’ve got some great shots here. Love the b & w. The subway shot’s great.
Really beautiful pictures!
Briliant photos … pls upload some more
Love. Love. Love. Especially the final one ;)
Though a little overwhelmed by how busy it is in here! Really like the man-with-lunch one, and man-at-station one, too. But they’re all brilliant. You have not disappointed :D
Haha, yay! I’m glad that they meet with your approval :D and yes, things have become a bit crazy since the Paris post made it onto the homepage… It’ll probably die down in a day or two, but hopefully some visitors will stick around.
I’m glad that your photos are getting the admiration they deserve, however, I might hide out until the hubub passes…I get slightly fazed by large crowds :S
Why don’t you release these photos with a Creative Commons license?
This way you still get the credit while your photos get more eyeballs!
A brilliant photographer shouldn’t let his photos hide in the obscurity of the web. Better yet upload it on Flickr and select the right options so that people searching for CC-licensed images from Flickr.com/commons find you easily!
Just my 2 cents!
Congratulations for getting onto Freshly Pressed. Great photos. I especially like the Eiffel Tower ones. I live in France, but nowhere near Paris – I’d like to get there more often.
Love the photos… beautiful city!!
the sky in the very first picture looks magnificent! it looks like a river or water fall flowing down the picture. excellent shot. also love the polaroid of the eiffel tower
amazing shots…loved the first one and the one of thr bottle…Paris must be heaven!!!
you have some great shots. Definately inspires me to open my eyes and shoot things that are not the typical photography style. Keep up the good work!!!!
ABBESSES image is very good.
What beautiful photos! It looks like you had a great trip. So glad I stumbled on your blog xx
Beautiful shots, just what I would expect from France!
These are AWESOME! I love them. France is one of my favorite things to write about!
